Cool Hunting
Maybe it's because of all the bullshit oil politics, or maybe it's because I just revisited my crunchy Vermont roots-- either way, I'm fascinated by Biodiesel at the moment. It is an old concept that's seeing a rebirth among socially responsible and environmentally conscious youth. My friend Nori runs her Merc on Biodiesel and taught me all about it.
What is Biodiesel?
Biodiesel is a domestic, non-toxic, biodegradable fuel that can be made from used cooking oil. As a society, we will use up our fossil fuels much sooner than we will transcend towards a healthy raw food diet; fried foods and waste vegetable oil are not becoming a scarcity. There is also a huge transformation that happens when you are in control of your own fuel. Being able to harness ones own energy in a sustainable manner is one of the best things we can do to support our fragile planet.

My scooter-loving friends swear by the traditional Italian brands like Vespa, Aprilia and Lambretta, so they've been slightly disgusted that my head has been turned by the Japanese. First it was Honda's Zoomer (or Ruckus as it's also known) that impressed me with its pared-down Mad Max minimalism. Their classic Monkey Bike, updated from top to bottom in shiny chrome, has won me over....
The Zoomer is one of oki-ni's latest products--a 50cc scooter collaboration with Honda. Very limited edition, only 15 Zoomers will be available and oki-ni will be selling 5 of them each month for the next 3 months. It's available in 3 colors, plasma yellow, black, and camouflage green (shown). Each Zoomer comes with a limited edition numbered key ring and an invitation to a...
Treehugger about Toyota's continued push for environmentally friendly transportation. The hybrid car manufacturer will be testing a new lower impact, mass transit scheme this March in Japan. The Z-Capsule bus runs on a low-emission, compressed natural gas engine. But to further minimize impact, they will run on an Intelligent Multimode Transport System (ITMS) that will automatically adjust schedules and route based on rider demand....
by Passa Chattra If you've spent anytime hiking or camping you know the value of keeping your stuff dry. Nothing can be worse than having to sleep in wet clothes after crossing two rivers, hiking a few peaks, and the temperature has dropped 20 degrees. There are lots of high tech dry bags that will do the job, but the fact is the materials...
Giving mopeds of yore a new look and an energy boost, Citydoo's Elektroon relies on pedal power to get up to speed before the electric engine kicks in. But once it does, it can hit speeds up to 40 mph and the battery will keep it going for about 80 miles. To recharge, the bike plugs into a standard outlet and six hours later,...
Recent years have seen OZOcar in NYC, ecoigo and green tomato in London, an Ecolimo in Melbourne and an (unrelated) Ecolimo serving NYC, S.F., Washington D.C. and Los Angeles. Just last week PlanetTran introduced the first fleet of Priuses for hire to the San Francisco Bay Area. (They launched their Boston service in 2003.) Serving Oakland, San Jose and San Francisco airports, like OZOcar...
