Cool Hunting
The wild illustrations of Antonio Carvalho have recently been featured in Pictoplasma, the character illustration book and Web site. His work is inspired by childhood fantasies of creatures hiding in the refrigerator. I think they're all pretty great, except the clowns. Clowns freak me out. But maybe that's what he's going for. Here Antonio shares a personal statement and some of his more recent work.
Antonio's statement:
I have designed characters since I can remember. My characters come from my grandmothers cooler because she had it stuffed with very suspicious food that laid there for months. Me and my brothers were always joking and making funny stories about it. A few years after I made the first attempt to illustrate books but the critics encourage me to follow non commercial work, and today I´m just happy to design for raving events and more alternative projects.

One of the hardest working typographers we know, Mike Perry is currently working on his second book. Check out the Brooklyn-based designer's first book, "Hand Job: A Catalog of Type," which is a great collection of hand-drawn type out out by Princeton Architectural press. It's hard to look at this site and not be motivated to get working too!...
We love the way Australian-based website Sex In Art takes a healthy peek at all things arty and well…sexual. There's some beautiful illustration work up there and some evocative photography. Heck, we're getting a little hot under the collar just thinking about it. While most of the work they feature is work friendly, some of it isn't. Still, it's worth more than a casual...
Grafuck 2 is the second annual publication of erotic art works from husband and wife design team Fiel Valdez and Peter Vattanatham (me,me). With illustration, photography, fine art and graphic design from emerging and established artists the second installment has all the lust and humor we loved about Grafuck 1. Grafuck 2 features a double-sided centerfold by kozyndan as well as works that range...
If you've ever noticed a visually arresting Australian photographer, illustrator, or artist on Cool Hunting, chances are it's a contribution from Lost at E Minor, a site and weekly newsletter published by brothers Zolton and Zac Zavos. But, what you see on CH is only a select sampling of the rich finds the two come up with from the smallest continent and beyond. For...
I love First & Fifteenth, a graphic novel by Steve Powers aka ESPO. I am tempted to tear out the pages and put them on my walls. But I love the stories too much. This book is done in an unique style of comic communication sans voice bubbles. It features urban parables using imagery from: the streets, signs and advertising. The short stories about...
New from the ladies at Cake, a book that (in the same vein as their events and website) is a frank, sex-positive take on sexuality for the modern woman. Enclosed in a red faux-velvet cover, the guide dishes advice, history, and opinion on topics like body image, masturbation, threesomes, and casual sex. Features include interspersed first-person fantasies, Cake-endorsed products, films, and books, and pleasure...
