Contemporary Art Museum: Niteroi, Rio, Brazil by Josh Rubin

neidemeyer_museum

Oscar Niemeyer is undoubtedly Brazil's most influential modern architect. I was only able to see a small sampling of his work, but was blown away by the Contemporary Art Museum in Niteroi (outside of Rio). This Jetson's fabulous structure looks like progressive 50's Modern, but was actually completed in 1996. Especially genius is how the alien structure harmonizes with surrounding nature. Check out the rest of the pics to see what I'm talking about.

The event brought together a worldwide set of architects and public institutions under the idea-provoking theme of how public and private spaces relate to each other and how they can (or can't) co-exist. Taking place in beloved Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer's Biennial building (the...
Os Gemeos: The flowers in this garden were planted by my Grandparents
Os Gemeos, our favorite identical Brazilian twin artists Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo, have many reasons to be excited about their new show, “The flowers in this garden were planted by my Grandparents.” First of all it's the duo's first solo museum show. Also, their good friend and mentor Barry McGee has previously showed at the Museum Het Domein. The twins pulled off a feat,...

When Homer Olivetti and his partner were procuring an office for their film production company Ouro 21 in São Paulo, they knew they wanted to be part of the energy inside the multi-story alternative shopping mall Galeria Ouro Fino. The top floor of the building was dilapidated, practically all of the shops were vacant and upon inquiring into the possibility of renting some space...
