Tim Bavington by Josh Rubin
The latest series from Vegas based artist, Tim Bavington, is up at Mark Moore. Bavington's luscious air brushed stripes are said to be derived from rock and roll guitar riffs-- as such, they are an abstracted data visualization. Rockin-techno-fab!
Here are some shots of the installation, courtesy of the artist:

Montage-a-Google
The fact that Google has made APIs available for all sorts of integration projects is among the many things that makes the search engine leader wonderful. I've seen several great projects built on top of Google, beginning with Marumushi's graphical view of Google News (which has been my browser homepage ever since I discovered it). The latest innovation, Montage-a-Google, comes from Grant Robinson and...

Pulse: An Emotion Visualization Organism
Pulse is a live visualization project by Berlin-based artist Markus Kison. It's based around a shapeshifting, heart-like object that reacts to the emotions expressed by the authors of private weblogs on blogger.com. A program aggregates words in blogs' text and scans for synonyms that correlate with the emotional concepts in Robert Plutchik's three-dimensional circumplex model describing the psychoevolutionary theory of emotion. The more one...

Personal Data Forest
This image is a representation of all the data right here on Cool Hunting, created using Texone's Tree Applet. You point the applet to a web address and it translates the syntactic structure of the site to a tree visualization. It also creates a Midi file so you can hear a representation of the site. While this may be more fun than useful, there's...

The Thought Project
Danish thinker Simon Høegsberg conducted a social experiment over the course of 3 months where he stopped 150 strangers on the streets of Copenhagen and New York City and asked them what they were thinking about the second before he stopped them. He recorded exactly what they told him, and took pictures. The Thought Project is at the very least creatively entertaining, but I'm...
