1984 redux by Josh Rubin

1984ipod.jpg

Today Steve Jobs gave the keynote at Macworld 2004 in San Francisco. The iPod mini is very exciting, as is iLife 4. The most exciting thing of the day for me, however, was the little remake of the original Apple Macintosh ad from 1984. My favorite TV commercial of all time has been subtly enhanced by including an iPod. It has been 20 years since the Mac was introduced. We're all hoping for some fantastic 20th Anniversary Mac sometime soon.

Apple Store Tokyo
Steve Trautlein, for metropolis.japantoday.com, reports on the gorgeous new Apple Store in Tokyo. By opening their five-story Ginza branch in a can't-miss location across the street from fabled depato Matsuya, Apple looks to build on the success of its US-based stores by importing that same formula into Tokyo. Tech gurus, artists, architects and musicians will all be on hand in the coming weeks to...
Eric Scollon Ceramic Sex Toys
Our exploration of SF's Look boutique continues, leading us to local artist Eric Scollon's cock rings and butt plugs made of ceramic in the style of Tang dynasty blue-and-white pieces. The objects flirt "with the distinctions between art and craft, utility and uselessness and the boundaries between the world of art and the “real world.” Each one is unique, painted by hand and available...
Galen Trezise Crocheted Cozies
From the newly-opened Look boutique in SF, these handmade cozies have all the warm appeal of a sweater grandma made with an offbeat Dr. Seuss shape. According to the site, they're intended for vases but we think they'd be well-suited for dressing up a different household object that holds water and plant matter. With unusual colorways, ruffles and perforated weaves, they also hold their...
AirMail
Sometimes the obvious choice is the best choice, which is why we love the new manila envelope-based AirMail sleeve designed for the new MacBook Air by our favorite quick thinkers, Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans. Yep, someone already did it.We were hoping that the Airs would ship in an actual manila envelope, but the AirMail lends functionality by handmaking the case out of...
