Day14

by Josh Rubin

Bill Griffin and Andy Maw (Day14) asked 18 artists what was a source of wonder to them as a child. The result is an online gallery, book and exhibit of work from Neville Brody, Pete Fowler, eboy, Rinzen, Michael Gillette and others. Each piece is on a 1 meter square canvas. While the topic may seem a little hoakey, the work is rather outstanding. This piece, from Australian collective Rinzen, is one of my favorites.

Finger Whisper

The FingerWhisper currently being developed at the NTT DoCoMo Yokosuka R&D center. Worn on the wrist, this watch-like terminal converts voice to vibration through an actuator and channels this vibration through the bones to the tip of the index finger. By inserting this finger into the ear canal, the vibration can be heard as voice.

The great thing is that the body language of using this phone / headset is just like talking on a traditional handset. This means you wont look like a nutter walking down the street talking to yourself when you're really talking into a little handsfree ear piece.

Bill Henson

Australian photographer Bill Henson's work reminds me a lot of Lisa Kereszi's. His images are dark, but beautifully lit landscapes and protraits that both warm and disturb.

"In a photograph, we have simultaneously an absolute presence in the evidential authority of the medium and an entirely impossible dreamscape." Bill Henson
