Cool Hunting

Always a pioneer in PR, Nike has uncovered a yet untapped frontier for name placement: the historic squares of urban Europe. The first location for Nike's new campaign is Vienna's Karlsplatz, now known as 'Nikeplatz.' In order to promote the Nike lifestyle to the Viennese public, a seductive 'Info Box' has been installed in the square. There, visitors can learn about the 18 m high monumental swoosh to be built on the square (soon) and the commemorative Turbulence III sneaker (both in celebration of Nikeplatz). Part of a campaign named Nikeground, Nikeplatz is just the first of many international cities that will be upgraded to a Nike City. Nikeground is a project by the always provocative European art group 0100101110101101.ORG in cooperation with Vienna's Public Netbase.
10/26 UPDATE
It's a fake.
NIKE SUES ARTISTS OVER SATIRE
Wish I Thought of it Department: the European art group
0100101110101101.ORG has created a fake Nike website, Nike Ground
(http://www.nikeground.com), portraying the company as real-estate
vultures who buy streets and squares in cities around the world in
order to rename them and install giant monuments of the swoosh. The
site looks and feels so much like a Nike site that even the savviest
web surfers should be forgiven for missing the point. But if
ambiguity makes for a muddy message, it also insures that Nike will
take note, and indeed -- Phil Knight et al. have issued a 30-page
injunction demanding the immediate removal of material related to
copyrighted material.
Here's hoping that Nike Ground gets a ton of publicity for this and
spurs much-needed discussions about the corporate takeover of public
space.

Psyop, the freshest CG shop on the planet, has launched a new web site featuring their work. The site is great. Better than the site is their anthem piece, which can also be found in the projects section. It's a shameless pro-consumption statement on what marketing is really all about. Genius....
During the Summer of 2000 I had a major technolust for the much anticipated Modo pager. Of course, I got one of the $100 (with no additional cost for service) egg shaped devices the day it came out. It still is the best example I have seen so far of consistent experience. From the hipster ads, to the curvy Industrial Design, to the twirling...

I've got a few decks in mind that I'd like to roll around on, but I'll keep that to myself for now. A $200 cash prize along with a free deck is up for grabs so head on over to Popdeck to submit your design...
The newly launched website, Tryphone provides the ultimate assist in purchasing a new mobile phone, allowing for test drives of different models on their site through a virtual interactive design. Clicking on buttons gives a sense of the user interface and functionality, just choose which phone you'd like to try from their surprisingly well-stocked inventory. Also featuring reviews and side-by-side comparisons, it's a good...
It's time we tap into the CH talent pool again (that means you!), this time for a skateboard design contest with our new friends over at Popdeck. The Threadless of skateboard design, Popdeck is a website that allows users submit and vote on designs with the winner getting a cash prize and their entry made into a limited-edition board. Since we're a bit obsessive...
Flashmobs might be so five years ago, but MINI's latest campaign to promote the new Clubman, (i.e. "the other mini"), adopts the concept for an online series of videos. Starting tomorrow, 28 September 2007, at 4pm BST, they will release a weekly 15-second surrealist interpretation of an everyday event that will only be available on The Other View site for one minute—if you enter three...
